LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Today) - Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has declared a state of emergency ahead of the October 14, 2024, solar eclipse. The declaration releases funds from the state's Response and Recovery Fund to assist in preparation and response efforts.

In a statement, Governor Sanders said, "This event is expected to draw visitors from across the country and around the world. While we welcome this influx of tourism, we must also take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors."

The state of emergency will remain in effect until April 10, 2024. During this time, additional emergency response personnel will be on standby in several Arkansas counties. The state is also coordinating with local governments and emergency management agencies to ensure a coordinated response.
